Victorian 9ct Gold & Seed Pearl Crescent Moon Brooch
Antique Jewellery is saturated with secret messages, symbolism and sentiment. The Victorians perfected the art form of symbolism in jewellery with flowers, shapes and gems as a means of discrete communication with elaborate messages.
This gorgeous late Victorian brooch has been crafted from 9ct gold. It features detailed bead work throughout and the centre crescent shaped moon houses 8 original seed pearls.
The crescent moon celebrates the feminine moon goddess and therefore is associated with female empowerment. It also symbolises change (as it turns into a full moon and back) and spirituality.
This beautiful English brooch measures approximately 1 ¾" long by ½" wide (at widest point). It is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold and made in Birmingham c1887.
Would make a wonderful, thoughtful gift for someone or an excellent addition to your antique jewellery collection.
